The Not Holiday!

Dan & I had a fun few days planned for this week. A very good friend of mine got married in Jhb on Wednesday evening & last night one of Dan’s poker / soccer buddies got married in CT. So were travelling up and down for 2 days, but it was all meant to be worth it, after all nothing can beat a good wedding.

So we arrive in Jhb early Tuesday afternoon and go straight to see my friend Zas, who had a baby 11 weeks ago. Jake is the cutest thing and I was so happy to finally meet him. He is the splitting image of Zas. The rest of Tuesday went well and we had a good dinner with a great friend in Melrose, so far the holiday was going great.

Get home and Dan starts to feel “not-so-good”. The not-so-good turned into a horrid bug / food poisioning (Dan thinks Selminella…). The poor “boy” was as white as a sheet and not doing well, I knew I had to get him to a doctor. Only problem was that it was 330am and who could I call at that time. Lucky I remembered the number of a brilliant community organisation that was able to help me within seconds and give me directions to the closest clinic. I was so very impressed.

So the 1st night of our holiday  was spent with Dan connected to a drip and me sitting on the floor of his hospital room - there were no spare chairs in the emergency ward and I did not want to disturb him and sit on his bed. We were finally able to leave after 7am and go home to get some sleep. I attempted to get some sleep but it wasnt a very successful feat. I eventually gave up, went to see Zas and then had my hair done for the wedding that evening. I got back at 2pm - all this time Dan was still sleeping.

I got ready and went to the wedding. Had to be there early for photos and told Dan to try and make it in time for the Chuppah, provided he felt ok. He was VERY fragile.

T & D’s wedding was so so beautiful, just like a fairytale. Dan made the chuppah and even survived starters (which he never ate, but they were SO good) and speeches. By 9pm he was going pale again and not looking to good at all - i sent him home. I stayed and partied the night away. I was worried about Dan, but was happy knowing he was safe at home. His brother was with him at home, so i knew if there was any problem he would call me.

Thursday morning Dan woke up feeling a whole lot better, still not 100% but he was on a good 75%! I kind of wasnt surprised as I figured my friend Murphy was visiting me again. We headed straight to the airport and was back in Cape Town by 2. Enough time to get ready for D&M’s wedding.

D&M’s wedding was also beautiful. Both weddings were so very different yet both amazing! By 5 Dan was 90% himself, but felt bad that he was ok for this wedding and could not make it for the wedding in Jhb. He missed a fantastic wedding, but his sickness was not planned!!!!! I am happy he was healthy enough to enjoy the 2nd wedding :)

We are off to Hermanus for the weekend. Current status = healthy :) Hoping the weekend will be less “eventful” than the past week!

Solar Power

It may  be the middle of winter in Cape Town, but for the last few days / week we have had unseasonably amazing weather. I am not complaining. In fact, the only reason i am writing a post about the weather is to say how much  I love the sunshine. I honestly think I am solar powered. I see the sun and I smile, and feel as if I have enough energy to conquer a steep mountin climb!

However, the bad thoughts do enter my mind too … Why are we having such warm days in the middle of winter? ( currently i am working outside in the sun in a t-shirt and skirt) Is this glorious sunshine in the middle of winter an occurance due to global warming - eek! Scary to think, but it is porbably the sad truth.

Oh well, for now I will do my little bit  - recycle, drive into work with Mr B whenever possible, but also enjoy the sun on my back while i type away… bitter sweet…

Making Time for the More Important Things

As I mentioned I’ve been working like a dog these past few weeks. There is a lot of work to do, but the goal is in sight, so I have been very amped to plod through and reach the finish line. However, this large amount of work has resulted in me working most evenings till rather late and even the weekends.

On Sunday I work up at the crack of cracks and started working, leaving Mr B fast asleep in our nice warm bed. He likes to sleep late, and I don’t so I never forsaw a problem. Although come 12pm I was still working and Mr B was very much awake, dressed and ready to get on with the day. So I stopped working with the idea I would carry on in the evening - which I did. I think at this point Mr B reached breaking point, it takes a lot for him to get upset about me working. So, to cut a long story short, he basically said, what a woman would normally say to a man, - the work is ridiculous and i should be spending some time with him.  I could not argue!

Suffice to say last night, i got home, hid my Mac away and spent the whole not with Mr B :) It was great to have some quality time together with no work involved.

In today’s busy world it is so easy to just keep going and going… and one can forget to stop. breathe. and have a look around.

Murphy… & her stupid rules…

Firstly, is Murphy a he or a her????

Either way, Murphy really gets to me sometimes. For the sake of my sanity I’d like to assume that Murphy is a very premenstrual women with a sick sense of humour.

Most of the time you can almost predict when Murphy is going to go on a rampage and let off her rath… you know, normally just before an important meeting, when you running late, when everything just seems to go to be true, when you really need things to be going right….

This week Murphy and I have seemed to be bumping paths more than usual…it’s a bugger.

Murphy, please stay a way for a while now, I have seen you too much in one week for my own sanity.

Thanks!

Ramblings

The past week has been an exceptionally crazy week. Been working like a demon, yet feels like nothing is getting done - don’t you just hate that feeling?

Thought, this is a great soapbox to use as a venting mechanisim and just to YELL OUT LOUD!

Ah, that feels a whole lot better!

It may be Saturday morning, but there is work to do…..
